The Muslim Alliance in North America (MANA) mourns the tragic loss of life following the deadly shooting at the Islamic Center of San Diego on May 18, 2026. We are sending prayers and condolences to the families, loved ones, and community members affected by this horrific act of violence.
We especially honor the lives of Amin Abdullah, Mansour Kaziha, and Nader Awad. May Allah have mercy on them and grant them the highest levels of Paradise. May Allah also give comfort and strength to the families they leave behind.
Reports indicate that these three men acted with tremendous courage during the attack and helped protect children and members of the community from even greater harm. Their actions reflected the values so many Muslims strive for every day: service, sacrifice, and courage.
For Muslim Americans, this tragedy is extremely painful, but unfortunately not shocking. Muslim communities across this country are living with increasing threats, harassment, dehumanization, and fear fueled by Islamophobic rhetoric, extremist websites, and the repeated portrayal of Muslims as dangerous outsiders. America should be fully aware by now that hateful rhetoric, organized fearmongering, and the constant dehumanization of communities can eventually lead to acts of violence like this.
At the same time, tragedies like this remind us what Muslim communities in America truly represent. We are communities trying to raise families, serve society, worship peacefully, and contribute positively to this country. The men murdered in San Diego represent the Muslim American community we know.
MANA also recognizes that this attack is not only a Muslim issue. Every community, every house of worship, and every family should be concerned when hatred becomes normalized and human beings are treated as threats because of their religion or race.
We pray for the safety and wellbeing of all communities. We pray for healing for the Islamic Center of San Diego. And we pray that the memories of Amin Abdullah, Mansour Kaziha, and Nader Awad continue to inspire courage, service, and compassion in all of us.
May Allah give them a peaceful rest, raise them amongst the righteous, and shower peace upon their families and loved ones.
